Food adventure: Gobo Root

Gobo Root
The Super Top Root!

Visiting ethnic food stores has always been gratifying to me because I get to see items not common to local grocery stores in our area.  Every visit is like an adventure.  What new things will I find this time?  Then when you learn something new, you feel like you’re smarter than all your other friends who haven’t been to one! Aha!  This one will be our conversation piece the next time get together with my friends!  I’m just kidding but feel free to take what I just mention seriously.  Of course I still rely on Fred Myer, Safeway, or QFC for most of my grocery items but it can get a little boring when you see same items each time you go grocery shopping.

One time, I stopped by Uwajimaya, an Asian food and gift store, and came across this odd looking root crop in one of their vegetable shelves.  The price is 89¢ only.  I can’t complain about

Fashionista Part 1

Winter Ensemble
Because winter fashion doesn’t have to be boring!

Winter outfit doesn’t have to be your typical boring black everything.  Just by adding one lighter color to your get-up can make your otherwise gloomy day brighter.

Road Trip! (part 2)

Next Stop:  Bantayan Island, Cebu

We travel for different reasons.  Sometimes we have reasons in mind then we come up with new ones along the way.  In our experience we learn of so many things we never used to know.  These new acquirements make us realize how much we didn’t know and make us question ourselves, how much more we don’t know.

Food Trip 2

I think it is safe to say that majority like chowder.  May it be clam chowder, fish chowder or corn chowder; it doesn’t matter especially on a cold winter night.  My personal favorite is clam chowder made with razor clams.  Razor clams have strong taste so if you’re making chowder for two people, you won’t really need a whole lot of razor clams to get that clam taste.  But I’m not suggesting not using a good amount.  If you love them just like I do, go ahead.  However razor clams or any clam for that matter are not always available in our local grocery stores so I had to

Road Trip!

The View from Here
Everywhere I go, I try to take pictures of the beautiful scenery and things I see.  I try to capture interesting people and events; Capturing the moments so they say.
I don’t know if it’s just me or my old digital camera but I realized one thing.

Food Trip!

Sausage-Stuffed Pasta

I have always like to experiment in my kitchen.  I believe that cooking is a science and that because it is, means I am free to explore it and create something that could make the people, I share the food with, happy.

Passionate about fashionable shoes?

Do you spell fashion S-H-O-E-S?
If you do, continue reading.

ShopSmart shoe poll result shows that almost 40% of women say they’re a shoe person. The average number of shoes women own is 17 pairs.  But those who said they're a shoe person own 27 pairs of shoes on the average.
According to Carol Gioia in her article at helium.com, the two main reasons why women buy multiple pairs of shoes are appearance and comfort.  I agree, but come on ladies, we all know the primary reason is appearance and comfort is secondary.  But who's to say that a pair of pumps can't be comfortable...uh...in the first three or four hours of wearing them?
But why do women wear those high heels if they are not so comfortable?  Do those pairs of heels that are a fine line away from being an ultimate killing machine have magic spell that gives women the confidence and sense of power?
I remember watching a Korean drama entitled, "I Do, I Do." The lead female character is a shoe designer and was ask by the male character why women wear heels.  He asked her why women depend on those sticks that are as thin as chopsticks to carry their whole body weight.  She didn't really answer that but I remember her saying in the first episode, when one customer was complaining about the heels not being comfortable, "Then why wear makeup or skinny jeans.  Just to make things comfortable you should wear jogging clothes."  Exactly, right?

For The Last Time

I saw you walking down the road
to the point of no return.
That's too far, papa,
though when you get there, I know,
you'll be closer to me than ever.

You're a gambler,
you're a sinner.
Doesn't really matter.
To me, you're simply my father.

You wanted to live a life of a free,
but the world is cruel,
they just won't let you be.

Asianovela addiction? Taiwanese vs Kdrama?

I have always wondered when I actually started liking east Asian movies and TV series.  At first, I thought It was because of Meteor Garden. Huh!  Then, one day I saw the culprit again on cable TV--- So Close.  This movie is about the two sisters that are computer hackers, assassins and espionage specialists who use their late father's secret satellite technology to give them the advantage over their rivals and law enforcement.   Interesting plot but what sticks to me even more was the Carpenters song Close to You because this song was always played in the movie every time Ai Lin (the elder sister) exits the scene right after she wiped out her target and anything that comes her way to complete here mission.  I remember thinking Shu Qi (Ai Lin) was like the prettiest action movie female lead I have ever seen.

Mashed potato? No, thanks!

My personal feelings towards rice, is the exact opposite of my feelings towards mash potato, if you know what I mean.  I tried not to eat rice for weeks and the result was scary.  I ate almost a whole loaf of bread.  Almost because my husband had to stop me from gobbling the whole loaf which would mean, him

Budots

If the US taught us “how to doggie” and South Korea has “Gangnam Style”, The DavaoeƱos  have “Budots”.  The term budots is the slang for “tambay” which means people with no jobs or permanent jobs.  They have more free time in their hands so to speak.  The dance was branded “Budots” because the
